Nepal ’s climate is dominated by the annual monsoon cycle whereby, as the Tibetan Plateau warms, air rises and this sucks in moist air from the southwest (and, to a lesser extent, from the southeast) off the Indian Ocean . This develops as the heavy monsoon rains found over the sub-continent through the months of June, July and August. As the air cools in the autumn the reverse process occurs and colder drier air sinks down from Tibet across the northern part of the sub-continent producing dry, clear weather.
